The Friendly Spreadsheet is turning five! Plus: a new offering, and a summer break
Don't worry, I'm getting fancy cookies to celebrate.
Allow me to start by getting mushy: April 1, 2026 marks five years since The Friendly Spreadsheet became my main gig. You have to be a certain amount of fool to start a business, and while I didn't wind up with an April 1 start on purpose, the April Fools anniversary has usually felt apropos. The work I do now is nothing like what I imagined when I started the business, but the WAY I work and the kind of people I work with are exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you for being part of the most fun and satisfying years of my career so far.

Next up, something new: in an effort to spend some of my privilege and do SOMETHING about the horrors of 2025-2026, I’m now offering “In THIS economy???” 30-minute money chats. These are minimally structured coaching sessions where we spend 25 minutes talking about a money-related tangle and then 5 minutes deciding on exactly one (1) follow-up task to help you get started unsnarling your tangle. It’s priced at coffee/lunch/standard rate ($8/$25/$75) for the half hour. As ever with my sliding-scale-priced sessions, I don't check which rate clients choose before the session.
Due to the pricing structure, I beta-tested "In THIS economy???" with a much more diverse set of clients than I get to work with for longer-term YNAB coaching. I wanted to make sure my skills were up to snuff for a wider range of financial situations. The feedback was very positive: turns out compassionate listening about money is kinda magical across the board. If a money chat isn’t for you, please keep this offering in mind and pass the link on to someone who could use it.
Next up, I’m starting grad school this June! (More about why here and what I’m looking forward to here.) It’s a part-time program, and I’m anticipating continuing The Friendly Spreadsheet throughout the 2-ish year process and beyond. However, I’m also trying to be kind to myself while I reacclimatize to academia, so I’ll be closed June 15-July 31 and may extend that through the end of August. If you’ve been vaguely considering doing a larger project with me, let’s get that scheduled before summer.
Thanks for your support.
Warmly,
Kat
PS: If you'd like to do something festive in honor of my business birthday, a Google Review. a LinkedIn mention , or a reply with something you're still doing as a result of working with The Friendly Spreadsheet would all be welcome. :-)
