Tax Reminder: Your 2025 fourth quarter estimated tax payment is due in 20 days.
It's that time again: your next quarterly tax installment is due January 15*. However! With the changes that occurred in tax law midyear that I refuse to call beautiful, there may be a tax advantage to paying your state/local estimated taxes in by December 31. Please consult your tax advisor. If you don’t already know how much you’re going to pay in for the fourth quarter, now is the time to block out some time on your calendar to get that sorted out.
If your 2025 financial situation is less rosy than your 2024, this is your reminder to check in with your tax pro and see if it makes sense to pay in less tax than they originally estimated. If you’re DIY-ing taxes, the IRS Withholding Calculator is a pretty good tool for answering ‘how much do I need to pay in?’ questions, and I have a new video out that walks you through how to use it even if your tax return doesn’t have any withholding. Note that the withholding calculator isn’t updated for some of the midyear tax changes; if the $10k property/state/local tax cap would have impacted you, you can work around the withholding calculator limitations by telling it you have no state/local taxes and instead putting the full amount of state/local taxes in the “Other Itemized Deductions” field, where they will not be capped.
Back in two weeks to remind you again,
Kat
*CPA Nag treats all deadlines that occur on the 15th or the following Washington DC business day as if they fall on the 15th. The added complexity of keeping track of weekends and holidays is not, in our opinion, worth spending your energy on.
